Camp FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Sandlot Development Program
What do we bring?
Proper baseball attire/equipment: hat, shoes (don’t need to wear baseball cleats), glove, and bat (if you have one). Please label your equipment so you can identify it. Most importantly bring a great attitude for baseball!
Can parents be involved?
Absolutely. We encourage parents to be at the camp, listen, and ask questions. However, we do not allow parents, even those who are qualified, to offer instruction to players during the camp (unless they are working in an “instructor” capacity for Sandlot Baseball Camps). Parents are not required to stay at the park, as long as we have a contact phone #.
Who is coaching and what are the staff:student ratios?
Coach Murphy has designed the curriculum based on what has worked for him to develop baseball players over his 27 year college coaching career. Murph will attend some of the sessions as his schedule with the San Diego Padres will allow. The on-field instruction will be directed by Rob Gorrell. Rob is a former ASU Sun Devil and former professional player and currently coaches the Sandlot All Stars. The staff will also include other coaches from the Sandlot staff, the Sandlot coaching staff, and camp counselors to monitor drills. Sandlot Camps maintains ratios not to exceed 8:1 staff:player to ensure a quality camp experience.
Will there be water breaks?
Yes, we will provide breaks in the session to allow players to stay hydrated…and to “regroup”. Please have your son/daughter bring something to drink during the breaks.
What is the cancellation/refund policy?
If circumstances dictate that Sandlot Baseball Camps has to cancel a session, then that session will be rescheduled for another date. In that case the player can attend the rescheduled session, or get a credit for a future Sandlot Baseball Camp program. There are no refunds or credits for sessions that a player misses.
What is the overall philosophy?
Coach Murphy and the staffs of The Sandlot All Stars are dedicated to teaching the game of baseball in a fun, positive environment. There will be a focus on skill development, understanding of the game, and proper sportsmanship and respect for the game and others.
